Here are 3 small changes we’ve made in our home so far
1- Beeswax food wrap
I bought mine but you can make your own. It’s just a piece of linen coated in beeswax. You can wrap up food for your lunches or leftovers and the wrap stays in place. Once you’re finished, simply wash with warm water and soap and save until next time. They do wear out eventually, but when they do, they can go into the compost because they are made with natural products.
2- Stainless steel straws
Plastic straws often end up as litter and can wreak havoc on wildlife, especially in the lakes, rivers and oceans. We don’t use straws a whole lot but they’re nice to have around for smoothies or milkshakes. Sometimes when I order a drink from a fast food place, I leave the plastic straw and just use my own. They come with brushes so you can clean them easily. There are also bamboo straws or paper straws available.
3- Bamboo toothbrushes
Dentists recommend that we replace our toothbrushes every 3 months or so. With a population in the billions, you can imagine that even if a lot of people aren’t replacing their toothbrushes, that’s still billions of plastic toothbrushes being disposed of annually. Whoa! For that reason, we have decided to switch to bamboo. Once we’re done, we can remove the bristles and compost the rest. It isn’t completely waste free, but it’s a huge improvement!
Remember darlings, a million small changes can make one big impact!
