Today is yet another rainy weekend day. We seem to have an abundance of those in our area lately, but I headed out for my daily walk anyway. Walking in the rain is something I’ve done more times than I can count. I know it’s not for everyone, but for me it’s no big deal. I’ve even taken some beautiful photographs that I would have otherwise missed out on. In fact, as I was out for a rainy day walk a few months ago, I was inspired to write a poem for my book “Rising Up” that was dedicated to grey skies. I decided today was the perfect day to share, so here it goes.
Learn to love the grey skies too
The fluffy puffs of snow
Drifting slowly towards the Earth to cover the flora in thick winter frosting
Learn to admire the ice sculptures of the lake
Branches draped in sparkling crystal
And the silence of a land in hibernation
Learn to love the cloudy skies
The rain that falls in a steady pit-pat on the leaves and the soil
Breathe in the scent of the wet ground, the mossy stones and the cedars
Marvel at the electrified sky
Alive with brilliant white lightning
The handwriting of the Gods
Every day will not be sunny
But if you can,
Learn to love the grey skies too
